Parent education is the key to any child’s success. F2BU offers Parent Empowerment Workshops, giving parents essential tools to empower their children at home and introduces the importance of the F2BU Leadership Program.

Elementary Level (ages 6-11)

The Free 2 B U Leadership Club for elementary school-aged children focuses on the social developmental phases for this particular age group by introducing principles targeting healthy social growth patterns.  This 6-week curriculum correlates with national, state and provincial standards and incorporates science, history, creative arts, performing arts and social studies. This program is easily adaptable to any learning or growing environment including public, private or home school, community recreation centers, YMCA’s, places of worship or any youth groups or camps.

The elementary level Leadership Club meets one day a week for six weeks after school or can be incorporated into the teaching curriculum.  Through the use of colorful visual aids, relatable terminology, and interactive games and activities, children become engaged in learning about the one rule that everyone on the planet can follow; The Golden Rule, treat others the way you wish to be treated.

It is recommended that each child keep a journal throughout this course.  Parents are strongly encouraged to practice these lessons along with their child at home.  After all, parents are the greatest role models for their children.

Here is a sample of each weekly lesson:

Week One – Introduction to the Golden Rule
Introduce The Golden Rule concept. “Treating others the way you want to be treated” may sound like a natural human practice, but in truth, it requires a deeper understanding in order to put it into daily practice.
Week Two – Self Discovery
In order for anyone to know how they want others to treat them “the way they want to be treated”; children need to have a clear understanding and vision of who they are. So, this second week, we focus on Self and guide them into identifying their natural potential and innate creativity.
Week Three – Relationships; TGR applied to others
Since this phase of a child’s life is a period of social development, it is important to develop proper social skills. For anyone to grasp the idea of being treated by others the way they wish to be treated, one must first gain an appreciation of their relationships with other people and a basic understanding of human diversity.
Week Four – Applying TGR into your community and for the environment
The golden rule certainly applies to more than just our relationship with people. Treating our planet with kindness and consideration will make a better place for us all, so treat your environment the way you wish the environment to treat you. This week’s lesson will introduce key environmental issues and promote a pro-active role to become more eco-friendly and involved within the community.
Week Five – TGR applied to the World; humanity
As a child learns about his/her own relationship to the world and the responsibility to be a “good person”, they begin to understand how this behavior shapes our world and impacts all of humanity. Children will gain the important understanding of a universal scope and that there is more to life than what they view within their day-to-day lives.
Week Six – Living The Golden Rule; Lead by Example
A true leader leads by example and demonstrates to others another way to be, maintaining a positive self-image, being kind to others, caring about the environment and making a difference in the world. This is the intention by this sixth week. The last day of the Leadership Club children express what they learned and what leadership means to them.
